Saif Ali Khan reveals why he refused Dil Chahta Hai
In an old interview, Saif Ali Khan explained why he turned down Dil Chahta Hai. He wasn’t pleased with the length of his character’s role in the movie. Surprisingly, he felt his character didn’t have much to do in the second half. Despite his reservations, he was assured by the filmmakers.
Saif Ali Khan shared that Dimple Kapadia and Javed Akhtar played key roles in convincing him to reconsider Dil Chahta Hai. Dimple advised him to think again about his decision, while Javed Akhtar assured him that his concerns about his role would be addressed. Their encouragement helped Saif change his mind about the film.
How the success of Dil Chahta Hai changed Saif Ali Khan’s mindset
Saif would have agreed to star in the movie on Dimple Kapadia and Javed Akhtar’s insistence. But he learned a huge lesson in life following the success of Dil Chahta Hai. He was surprised by the response. He realised then that the length of the role was not important. He revealed that he had signed the movie for just two scenes, one at the restaurant and one in the car. He did not anticipate the overwhelming response to the movie. However, he was sure Sameer wouldn’t be forgotten because he worked hard for that.
Did you know that Saif wanted the movie to be dubbed but Farhan went with Sync sound technique?
Saif Ali Khan wasn’t sold on the idea of dubbing for Dil Chahta Hai, as everyone in the industry was doing it differently. He suggested to Farhan Akhtar that they should dub their own movie too. However, after hearing a tape of the dubbing, he was impressed. Aamir Khan even teased him with a smile, asking if he still wanted to dub. That tape changed Saif’s mind.
