Shah Rukh Khan went beyond the usual to portray the alcoholic character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Devdas.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s fans consider his role in “Devdas” as one of his finest. The movie holds a special place in Bollywood history, praised for its performances, grand sets, and music. It elevated Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s status as a top filmmaker. Co-star Tiku Talsania disclosed that Khan drank alcohol during some scenes to make them more genuine. Khan believed that the character’s intoxication should reflect in his eyes, showcasing his dedication to bringing authenticity to the role.

Tiku Talsania spills the beans on the shoot of Devdas:

In an interview with Digital Commentary, Tiku Talsania, who played Dharamdas, revealed that during a hot summer shoot, SRK kept drinking rum to get into character. Talsania advised him to just pretend to be drunk. However, Shah Rukh Khan, fully immersed in his role as Devdas, insisted that his intoxicated state should reflect in his eyes. He said, “Sir, I can act, but if there’s no alcohol in my eyes, what’s the point?” He believed that without it, the drunkenness wouldn’t look authentic.

Tiku Talsania praised Shah Rukh Khan’s attention to detail, especially in expressing emotions through his eyes. He believed it was crucial for Devdas to have the appearance of an alcoholic in his eyes, as it would seem unnatural otherwise.

Tiku Talsania praised Shah Rukh Khan for his dedication:

Tiku Talsania hailed Shah Rukh Khan as a genius who dedicates himself entirely to his roles. Despite Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s thoroughness, Khan brought his own analysis to the sets of “Devdas.” They would discuss their scene breakdowns before shooting, showcasing Khan’s commitment to understanding his character deeply.
